Mudug University has established first medical school in central Somalia and which is immeasurably run by highly qualified health professionals. Mudug University is a public-private partnership and a non-profit making higher education institution with no political affiliation, established to meet the needs of the students. The university is keen to engage internationally to fulfil a vision of globally responsible citizenship. Our current faculties include faculty of Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Computer Science, Accounting & Management, Education, and Vocational Trainings. Our faculty professionals are well-qualified, well-regarded and positively orientated towards international engagement with potential partners. We are interested in validation, progression and articulation opportunities that can make a difference to the individual capacities of students and, through them, contribute towards the MDGs.
We believe access to education is a basic principal of human right and most important foundation underpinning a prosperous society and most critical component to combating human developmental challenges facing Somalia. Thus, to strengthen the future economic, social, and cultural development of Somalia, we invest in the future of Somalia’s young minds. The education infrastructure of Somalia has been weakened by decades of colonial neglect, followed by the outbreak of a civil war in 1991 that has led to widespread population displacement and paralysis of social services.
History
In response to this precarious situation, a group reputable professional, intellectuals of high status in community both inside and outside the country concluded to create higher education institution 2005. This culminated to the establishment and facilitation of Mudug University in 2008. The establishment Mudug University came because of the desperate need for higher education as it was very difficult for secondary school graduates to pursue their education or find a vocational training place locally.

It is located in south Galkaio town, Somali republic.
The University is a charitable body, registered in Somalia. Access to education are basic human right and a most critical component to combating human developmental challenges throughout Somalia and candidates/students shouldn’t be discriminated based on sex, origin, ethnic, colour or religion.

The Board of Trustee also known as the board of Governors body is the highest authority, they elect Chairperson, approve the award of honorary degrees, ratify university president and assess University's annual financial budgets and oversees international relation in accordance to the university Constitution.
